Bonuses

You will get 2x XP for Evolving Pokémon -
Shiny Roggenrola and its evolution are available in Pokémon GO
Note on XP Bonus
If you do not want to catch the featured Pokémon or do not have enough Roggenrola candy saved, you can make use of the 2x Evolution XP bonus by evolving any saved Scatterbug, or opening a Mystery Box or Coin Bag and evolving those!
This is a great opportunity to evolve any Pokémon caught during the Steel and Scales event. The old-school grinders will remember the days of saving Pidgey and other low-cost evolutions for this sort of spotlight hour, and it can be a good way to grind XP with a lucky egg on.
Boldore is a trade evolution. This means that if you mass trade Roggenrola with a friend during the spotlight hour, you can evolve Boldore to Gigalith for free (no candy cost)! This means that you have the chance to get extra evolution XP if you play with a friend!
Roggenrola is a Rock-type Pokémon in Pokémon GO which originates from the Unova region, with a maximum Combat Power of 1362 CP. Roggenrola’s best moveset in Pokémon GO is Smack Down and Rock Blast.
Roggenrola is weak to Fighting, Grass, Ground, Steel, and Water moves. It is strong against Fire, Flying, Normal, and Poison moves. Shiny Roggenrola is available in Pokémon GO. Roggenrola is boosted by Partly Cloudy weather.

The following Pokémon will grant you extra bonuses when catching Roggenrola if they are Mega/Primal evolved.
A Note on Mega Catch Bonus
While a Pokémon is Mega-Evolved, additional XP and Candy is granted when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it, or for any raid boss caught. These do not stack with each other. Additionally, High and Max Level Mega-Evolved Pokémon grant an increased chance to obtain Candy XL when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it.
PVP
No, Gigalith is bad in PVP. Gigalith is a mono-Rock type with poor bulk. A close comparison is Rhydon and Rhyperior, actually. Gigalith has just about the same Attack stat as each in Great League (and the same as Rhyperior in Ultra League), and higher Defense and lower HP than the Rhyno Bros, but it all shakes out to roughly equivalent bulk, though slightly in the favor of the Rhynos (who have a little bit higher overall stat product in the end). Both mono-Rocks (like Gigalith) and Rock/Ground types (like the Rhyno Bros) share a number of resistances and weaknesses: both are vulnerable to Fighting, Ground, and Steel, and mono-Rocks are also weak to Grass and Water, while Ground/Rocks are doubly weak to each, as well as an additional weakness to Ice. As for resistances, Gigalith resists Fire, Flying, Normal, and Poison damage, while Ground/Rock types have all of that plus a resistance to other Rocks, as well as a double resistance to Electric and Poison.
But unfortunately, while Rhyperior has made at least SOME impact on Master League, whether utilizing old moves or new moves, Gigalith looks very unlikely to replicate Rhyperior’s success. Heck, it can’t even replicate Rhydon‘s success!
PVE
Gigalith is good for new players who missed Rampardos, Rock Wrecker Rhyperior and Terrakion, or don’t have 6 of them, or want variety. If you have a Rock team built, this event won’t do much.
