Road to Kalos Event PvE Guide Part 2: Eggs and Raids

Welcome Trainers! Previously, I analyzed the PvE prospects of Wild Spawns in the current Road to Kalos event. Now, let us have a look at the PvE impact that Pokémon available in eggs and raids make in the current meta!

Legendary Birds of Kanto
Legendary icon

On Monday, February 23, we have the iconic Kanto trio of Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres making their way in Five-Star Raids. These birds can be encountered from raids with their respective featured attacks. Articuno will have access to Charged Attack: Hurricane, Zapdos will have access to Fast Attack: Thunder Shock and Moltres will have access to Charged Attack: Sky Attack.

IceFlying

Max CP 3450
ATK 192
DEF 236
HP 207

Sadly for Articuno, with that lowly attack stat of 192, doesn’t make any kind of impact in the PvE meta. It struggles both as an Ice as well as a Flying raid attacker. Unfortunately, this Freeze Pokémon is nothing more than a dex filler.

Sprite of Zapdos from Pokémon GO

Zapdos

ElectricFlying

Max CP 3987
ATK 253
DEF 185
HP 207

Unlike Articuno, Zapdos, the Electric Pokémon, does make a mark in the PvE meta, especially its Shadow variant. Yes, Shadow Zapdos isn’t in raids, but Trainers can raid regular Zapdos to get those regular and XL candies required to power-up Shadow Zapdos. As an Electric raid attacker, Shadow Zapdos sits at a high #7 position among Top Electric Attackers.

FireFlying

Max CP 3917

DEF 181
HP 207

The third member of the trio, Flame Pokémon Moltres, also makes an impact in the Fire meta with its shadow variant. Among Top Fire Attackers, Shadow Moltres currently sits at #8.

But what really stands out is, both Shadow Zapdos and Shadow Moltres double up as excellent Flying raid attackers, occupying #10 and #5 position among Top Flying Attackers.

While these Shadow Legendaries may not be in raids, this event is a great chance to grind for their respective XL candies, while at the same time hunt for that elusive shiny BG!

The Tower Duo from Johto
Legendary icon

On Tuesday, February 24, we will have the iconic Johto duo of Lugia (the Diving Pokémon) and Ho-Oh (the Rainbow Pokémon), making their way in Five-Star Raids in their shadow variants. Sadly no featured attacks!

Shadow Lugia

PsychicFlying

Max CP 4186
ATK 193
DEF 310
HP 235

Just like Articuno, Lugia struggles because of low attack stat. 20% shadow attack boost and high defense stat of 310 which helps it stay longer in raid battles, still doesn’t make up for the low DPS that Shadow Lugia outputs.

Sprite of Shadow Ho-Oh from Pokémon GO

Shadow Ho-Oh

FireFlying

Max CP 4367
ATK 239
DEF 244

Shadow Ho-Oh, on the other hand, does put up a better performance than Shadow Lugia, but it still an outlier to the meta. Sadly, for this iconic tower duo, there is nothing iconic in their meta performance.

Super Ancient Pokémon from Hoenn

On Wednesday, February 25, we will have Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon making their way in Primal Raids. Kyogre encountered from Primal Raids will have the Charged Attack Origin Pulse, while Groudon will know the Charged Attack Precipice Blades.

First up, we have the Sea Basin Pokémon, Kyogre. All three forms of Kyogre, regular, Shadow and Primal are among the Top Water Attackers in the game. Jeez, they are so good that you may want to keep all three in your raid party—A massive 952 XL candy grind.

Speaking of its counterpart, Continent Pokémon Groudon, is equally dominant. Its stats is exactly same as that of Kyogre, as is its performance in the meta.

Get Grinding Trainers! These Primals may be ancient but they will be dominating the meta long into the future!

Pokémon of Myth from Sinnoh
Legendary icon

On Thursday, February 26, we will have the Temporal Pokémon Dialga and Spatial Pokémon Palkia making their way in Five- Star Raids, with their respective Origin Forme in Five-Star Raids during Space-Time Anomalies. Origin Forme Dialga encountered from raids will have a chance to know the Charged Attack Roar of Time. Origin Forme Palkia encountered from raids will have a chance to know the Charged Attack Spacial Rend.

While Dialga, has long been a staple in Master League PvP, in PvE, Dialga does make an impact but not on the same level. As a Dragon raid attacker, Dialga really struggles while Origin Forme Dialga still ranks at a respectable #14. As a Steel raid attacker, Dialga’s performance improves, ranking at a high of #13 with Origin Forme ranking at #11 among Top Steel Attackers in the game. Overall, you may want to invest first in Origin Forme Dialga.

Palkia, just like Dialga, is a PvP staple, but not making enough impact in PvE scene. Palkia struggles both as a Dragon raid attacker as well as a Water raid attacker. Origin Forme Palkia meanwhile, is still a good Dragon raid attacker, ranked at #9.

The Tao Trio from Unova
Legendary icon

On Friday, February 27, we will have the Vast White Pokémon Reshiram, the Deep Black Pokémon Zekrom and the Boundary Pokémon Kyurem (Black & White) in Five-Star Raids. Reshiram encountered from raids will know the Charged Attack Fusion Flare while Zekrom encountered from raids will know the Charged Attack Fusion Bolt. Kyurem encountered from raids will have a chance to know the Charged Attack Glaciate. We recently had Kyurem Fusion Raid Day where Trainers already had a chance to raid all three. We also have a detailed PvE Guide for the trio. Let’s just have a quick look!

Reshiram

DragonFire

Max CP 4565
ATK 275

Reshiram, with access to Fusion Flare, is a solid Fire attacker, ranking at #6 among Top Fire Attackers. As a Dragon raid attacker, Reshiram lags behind, but this Dragon typing helps Reshiram in raids, especially against Grass raid bosses.

Zekrom

DragonElectric

Zekrom has exactly the same stats as Reshiram and a similar performance, albeit as an Electric raid attacker. It ranks at #8 among Electric raid attackers, just below Shadow Zapdos.

Kyurem, by itself, doesn’t make any impact in the meta. But its two fusion forms: Black and White Kyurems are elite S-Tier raid attackers. Among Top Ice Attackers, White Kyurem sits at coveted #1 followed by Black Kyurem at #2

Black Kyurem is also ranked #8 among Top Dragon Attackers.

Parting Words

Ok Trainers! That is it! My fingers and my back have given up while writing this two-part analysis! However, the day is not done yet! I am going out to play the game and so should you. For new Trainers, there is a lot of PvE stuff to grind and for veteran Trainers, there is always some space for refinement.

Yes, the event may largely be about costume and Special Backgrounds. Irrespective of whether you are a fan of these costume and special BG Pokémon, one cannot deny that these collectibles really help in those lucky trades! Source: Trust me Bro! My Shiny Galar Birds can attest.
