Orbeetle Meta Guide: Worth the Grind?

Welcome Trainers! A new season in Pokémon GO, Memories in Motion, has started and with it we have debuts of three new Pokémon. With the start of Bug Out 2026 Event, Trainers can encounter the following Pokémon for the first time in Pokémon GO: Blipbug, Dottler and Orbeetle. Let’s break down how Orbeetle stacks up in PvE and PvP.

Orbeetle: Stats, Profile and Typing

Orbeetle, the Seven Spot Pokémon, is a dual Bug Psychic type Pokémon, first introduced in Generation 8 (Galar region) with the release of Pokémon Sword & Shield. Unfortunately, Orbeetle is weak to 6 different types while resisting only 4 different types, but the resistance also includes a double resistance to Fighting.

Yeah, I will not waste any time here. With 156 Attack and 2513 CP, there is no way Orbeetle is making any impact in raids. Even Parasect is ahead of Orbeetle as a Bug attacker! And let’s just not go into the Psychic side, which is filled with even more heavy hitters.

Max Battles

Orbeetle boasts of a Gigantamax form that can unleash its exclusive G-Max Move, G-Max Gravitas, which is a Psychic type G-Max attack. Orbeetle is in a unique position as it the only one with access to a Psychic type G-Max move. However, because of its low Attack stat, Orbeetle sadly still can’t use such a unique case to its advantage.

Having said that, there is one potential case where G-Max Orbeetle can shine: As a defender in Max Battles. Having got access to Psycho Cut along with a very solid 240 defense stat and double resistance to Fighting, it certainly can hold its own against certain G-Max bosses like G-Max Machamp. Finally, some use for Orbeetle in PvE!

After seeing its PvE performance, players probably won’t be too eager about Orbeetle’s prospects in PvP, and understandably so. Unfortunately for Orbeetle, its PvP showing isn’t very impressive either, leaving it relevant only in a few niche scenarios.

Great League icon
Great League

Orbeetle was initially stuck with only 2 Charged Attacks in Bug Buzz and Psychic, leaving it with very little opportunity to have any play in PvP. Fortunately, the devs where gracious and added Psyshock in its movepool along with Psycho Cut as an added bonus. This improved Orbeetle’s performance massively but it is still not enough to provide Orbeetle with any meta relevance. Just tells you how bad it initially was!

In Great League, Orbeetle now has a few good wins like Clodsire, Medicham, Annihilape, Azumarill and Cradily. However, the loss column is still greater than the wins column with losses like Jellicent, Bastiodon, Altaria, Corviknight, Empoleon and Furret. Orbeetle at best looks like a spice pick, potentially catching some players off-guard. Having said that, there is some meta potential for Orbeetle in certain theme cups. Trainers for now, should at least look to get a high PvP IV Blipbug and hold onto it for potential future relevance.

Orbeetle’s ideal IV spread for Great League is: 0/14/14, 1499 CP, Level 26.

As Orbeetle has a max CP of 2513, players would have realized the high XL candy investment that Orbeetle will require for Ultra League. Alas, even with all that heavy investment, Orbeetle, though performing slightly better than in the Great League, still struggles to find meaningful meta relevance beyond select anti-meta or spice scenarios. Its win column remains shorter than its loss column. Among its few victories are Virizion, Lapras, Malamar, and Cresselia, while Corviknight, Skeledirge, Giratina (Altered), Empoleon, and Bellibolt firmly populate its list of defeats.

Orbeetle’s ideal IV spread for Ultra League is: 14/15/15, 2499 CP, Level 50.

Is Orbeetle Worth Building?
General icon

Let’s be honest, probably not. It has no serious raid presence and while its G-Max form is unique with access to a Psychic type move, G-Max Gravitas, but uniqueness doesn’t always translate into effectiveness. The low Attack stat prevents Orbeetle from leveraging this signature move to stand out in battle. Ultimately, Orbeetle gets stranded with a niche defender role for Max Battles. On the PvP side, the story stays mostly the same. Orbeetle’s performance improved with Psyshock and Psycho Cut, but that only lifts it from “poor” to “playable spice”.

So, is it worth building? Only if you really like Orbeetle or enjoy spice picks in PvP. Otherwise, this bug’s bark is definitely louder than its bite!

Parting Words
General icon

In summary, Orbeetle finds itself in a rather unfortunate spot in both PvE and PvP. Despite its intriguing design and respectable bulk, it simply doesn’t have the firepower to make a strong impression in most battles. That said, Orbeetle’s blend of typing and G-Max exclusivity keeps it interesting enough to watch for future updates or move shake-ups that could finally turn the tables in its favor. For now, though, this clever bug remains more of a curiosity than a contender.

Let us know Trainers! Which 3-stage Bug evolution line is your favorite? Has Orbeetle ever been in your team of 6 while playing Pokémon Sword & Shield?

As always, stay safe.
