Frequently Asked Questions about Pokémon GO Eggs
Egg icon

1. What are Pokémon GO Eggs?

Pokémon GO Eggs are items that players can obtain from spinning PokéStops, Gyms or from Gifts. These Eggs can be incubated and hatched to reveal a Pokémon that could potentially be a rare or special one not commonly found in the wild.

2. How do I get Eggs?

Eggs can be obtained by spinning the Photo Disc at PokéStops and Gyms, or from opening Gifts that you receive from your Friends.

3. What types of Eggs are there?

There are currently five main types of Eggs in Pokémon GO: 2km, 5km, 7km, 10km, and 12 km Eggs. Each type corresponds to the distance you need to walk to hatch the Egg. The potential Pokémon that can hatch from an Egg depends on its type. Here’s how to obtain each:

  • You can get 2km, 5km, and 10km Eggs from spinning PokéStops and Gyms
  • You can get 5km and 10km Eggs from your weekly Adventure Sync reward
  • You can get 7km Eggs from opening Gifts
  • You can get 12km Eggs from defeating Team GO Rocket Leaders

5km and 10km obtained from Adventure Sync have a different hatch pool than Eggs picked up by picking PokéStops. Here is how each Egg looks like in Pokémon GO:

4. What is Adventure Sync?

Adventure Sync is a feature that tracks your walking distance in the background, even when Pokémon GO isn’t open. This can help you progress toward hatching your Eggs even when you’re not directly playing the game. The Pokémon GO app doesn’t need to be open to progress Egg walking distance if Adventure Sync is enabled.

Every week, Adventure Sync can give players eggs as a reward for reaching specific distances.

  • A 5 km egg will be rewarded for reaching 25 km on Adventure Sync
  • A 10 km egg will be rewarded for reaching 50 km on Adventure Sync

Reaching the 50 km level will reward both a 10 km egg and a 5 km egg if the player has room. These eggs have unique egg pools that can be viewed above.

5. How do I incubate an Egg?

You can incubate an Egg by first selecting it from your Pokémon Bag and then choosing an available incubator. You have one infinite-use incubator, and can acquire additional limited-use incubators through gameplay or in-app purchases.

6. Can I hatch shiny or regional Pokémon from Eggs?

Yes, some shiny Pokémon can be hatched from Eggs. However, the chance is very low and it depends on the current in-game events and the type of the Egg. Region-exclusive hatchable Pokémon can be found via hatching Eggs picked up inside their respective regions.

7. Can Eggs expire or disappear?

No, Eggs will not expire or disappear from your inventory. They will only be removed once they are hatched.

8. How many Eggs can I carry at a time?

You can carry up to 9 Eggs at a time in your main inventory, plus 3 in your Bonus Storage. Only 12km Eggs and Adventure Sync Eggs can be stored in Bonus Storage.

9. Can I delete an Egg from my inventory?

No, currently there’s no option to delete or discard Eggs. The only way to remove an Egg from your inventory is by hatching it.

10. How do Pokémon GO events affect Eggs?

During certain in-game events, the distance required to hatch Eggs may be halved, or certain rare Pokémon may have increased chances to be found in Eggs, or different Pokémon can be found in Eggs.

11. When is the Pokémon that will hatch from an Egg decided?

The game decides which Pokémon will hatch from your Egg when you receive the Egg. Holding onto an Egg will not change which Pokémon will be hatched. You should consult this page when picking up an Egg to see what it can contain.

12. How does GPS drift and car driving affect Eggs?

Fast-moving vehicles don’t count towards distance travelled for Egg hatching. Leaving the app open while stationary can still contribute to Egg hatching due to the app’s GPS quirks – aka GPS Drift.

13. What are the minimum IVs in Pokémon GO Eggs?

Pokémon hatched from Eggs are always hatched at Level 20, and their minimum IVs are 10/10/10. Pokémon GO Eggs have an IV floor set at 10/10/10. If you hatch an Egg at a Trainer level lower than 20, the hatched Pokémon will be at your maximum Trainer level.

14. How much are the Egg distances in miles?

Kilometers Miles
2 km 1.24 mi
5 km 3.11 mi
7 km 4.35 mi
10 km 6.21 mi
12 km 7.46 mi
