Max Attackers Tier List (May 2025)

Explore our in-depth Tier List of best Max Attackers to use in Pokémon GO’s Max Battles. Our Max Attackers Tier List is sorted into five categories, starting from the top tier attackers and moving downwards.

As more and more options for Max Battles become available it can be hard to keep track of which ones are worth powering up. Our tier list takes many things into account including Attack and longevity of usefulness. Hopefully this will help you to spend your precious resources in the right place!

S Tier
General icon

  • Gengar (Gigantamax)

    Ghost

  • Kingler (Gigantamax)

    Water

  • Machamp (Gigantamax)

    Fighting

  • Toxtricity (Gigantamax)

    Electric

  • Charizard (Gigantamax)

    Fire

Explanation

S Tier Max Attackers are the strongest attackers that you can obtain and use in the game right now. Gigantamax Pokémon are always the best choice if the opponent takes super effective damage from them, and these are the best of the best you can have at this moment.

A Tier

Pokémon Move Type

Venusaur (Gigantamax)

Grass

Darmanitan
Dynamax

Fire Normal

Inteleon
Dynamax

Water Normal

Gengar

Dynamax

Fire Flying

Raikou
Dynamax

Electric

Kingler
Dynamax

Steel Water Ground

Explanation

A Tier Max Attackers are versatile replacements for S Tier Attackers when you are unable to obtain them, and they represent the best commonly available attackers. Their pre-evolution forms are often available in easier Max Battles, making them relatively available. The exception to this are Legendary Beasts (Raikou) and Legendary Birds (Zapdos and Moltres), which are good, but not essential.

B Tier

Fighting Normal

Explanation

B Tier Max Attackers are just a touch weaker attackers compared to A Tier, but they are still very solid options, and often used by up and coming Trainers. Nothing wrong with them, especially in larger groups.

C Tier
General icon

Pokémon Move Type

Venusaur
Dynamax

Grass

Falinks
Dynamax

Fighting

Articuno
Dynamax

Ice

Cryogonal
Dynamax

Ice

Explanation

C Tier Max attackers are strong attackers in their own right, but they are either highly situational or a better alternative exists in higher tiers. Examples like Falinks (overshadowed by Machamp and Passimian) and Dynamax Venusaur (often replaced by Electric or Water attackers) are illustrative of this group’s fate in the meta.

D Tier
General icon

Pokémon Move Type

Suicune
Dynamax

Normal Psychic Ice Dark

Blastoise
Dynamax

Dark Water Rock

Butterfree
Dynamax

Bug Psychic

Corviknight
Dynamax

Steel Flying Ground

Greedent
Dynamax

Normal Dark Grass Ground

Dubwool
Dynamax

Normal Fighting

Sableye
Dynamax

Ghost Dark

Blissey
Dynamax

Normal Psychic

Explanation

D Tier Max Attackers are essentially what remains when you sort all the good attackers in higher tiers. These attackers are low DPS and are often better in other roles, like Defenders or Chargers, so try to avoid using these as damage dealers if possible at all.
